The real problem with MVPs

The result? Products that are either too thin to validate anything or too bloated to ship on time.

1. Confusing "minimum" with "incomplete"
An MVP isn't a half-built product. It's the smallest thing you can ship that tests your riskiest assumption. If you can't articulate what assumption you're testing, you're not building an MVP — you're building a prototype with no purpose.
2. No feedback loop after launch
Shipping is not the finish line. The point of an MVP is to learn. Without instrumentation, user interviews, and a clear framework for interpreting results, you're flying blind.
3. Skipping scope discipline
Every feature feels essential when you're close to the problem. But scope creep is the number one killer of MVP timelines. The discipline to cut is more valuable than the instinct to add.
How to fix it
Start with the riskiest assumption. What's the one thing that, if proven wrong, makes everything else irrelevant? Build to test that first.
Set a time box. Six to eight weeks is enough to ship something meaningful. If your MVP takes longer, your scope is wrong.
Instrument everything. Analytics, session recording, and structured feedback from day one. Not after launch — before.
Plan for V2 before shipping V1. Know what you're going to learn and what comes next. The MVP is a step, not a destination.
The teams that win aren't the ones with the best V1. They're the ones who learn fastest and iterate with discipline. That's what separates a product that grows from one that stalls.
